On May 7, YRCTU held a work meeting in Conference Room 1 of the Administration Building to prepare for the upcoming quality accreditation of its higher vocational education programs for international students. The meeting was attended by Party Secretary Zhou Baoping, President Hu Hao, and Vice President Jian Haoran, along with heads of relevant administrative departments and academic units.

Party Secretary Zhou Baoping pointed out that the quality accreditation is a key university priority for 2025 and serves as a comprehensive assessment of YRCTU’s educational capacity, management standards, and level of internationalization. She stressed that the preparations have now entered a critical final stage. “All relevant units must fully grasp the strategic importance of this work,” she urged, “and strictly align with the accreditation framework to identify and remedy any shortcomings and execute all tasks to the highest standard. While showcasing the unique strengths of our international student programs, we must also focus on long-term growth by continuously refining our international talent development system and driving the high-quality development of our international education initiatives.”

President Hu Hao outlined three key requirements for high-quality advancement of the accreditation work. First, a deep commitment to its importance, ensuring a unified understanding and adequate resource allocation across all units. Second, proactive and effective execution, with the head of each working group designated as the primary responsible party to identify and resolve all existing issues before the expert panel arrives. Third, unified and impactful action, calling for the entire university to work with a shared purpose and common direction, remain focused on the goal, and create a virtuous cycle of using accreditation to drive reform and development.

Vice President Jian Haoran elaborated on the key areas of focus for the accreditation review. He stressed the need for a “whole-of-university” approach, urging all units to enhance collaboration, strengthen their sense of ownership, and work in unison to ensure a successful outcome. He directed the working groups to undertake meticulous planning and ensure a clear division of labor with individual accountability for every task, guaranteeing that all preparations proceed in an orderly, smooth, and effective manner. Finally, he reiterated the guiding principle of using the assessment to drive continuous improvement and reform, with the ultimate goal of elevating the quality of international student education and advancing the substantive, quality-driven growth of the university’s international programs.

Ji Yao, Director of the Liaison and Cooperation Department, and Wei Zongchao, Dean of the School of International Education, respectively presented the accreditation work plan, task assignments, and current challenges, while also providing an overview of preparations for the on-site review. Following their reports, representatives from various administrative and academic units engaged in a discussion on related work.

High-quality international student education is a vital component of China’s “Opening Up” in education and a key force in advancing the national strategy of building a leading country in education. The “Quality Accreditation of Higher Vocational Education for International Students” is a national quality assurance assessment commissioned by the Ministry of Education and administered by the China Education Association for International Exchange. It serves as the primary benchmark for evaluating the quality and effectiveness of international student education at Chinese higher education institutions. This accreditation represents a comprehensive review of YRCTU’s international student programs and is of profound significance for their future development.
